We understand the importance of workplace in this post-pandemic world where the look and feel of workplaces are more important to occupiers than ever before. We work with Architects on the ventilation, temperature control, lighting and power to create an effective office space. We look to use natural ventilation where practical to benefit air quality and low energy design.
When designing new buildings or major refurbishments we use a fabric first approach to maximise the efficiency of operation of the mechanical services before considering options for renewable energy. This is inline with Building Regulations and BREEAM/LEED and, in doing so, we ensure that our design optimise cooling requirements.
Every data centre will be designed to meet the requirements of the specific occupier, or anticipated occupier. As IT equipment evolves there is an increase in the density of power requirements, and therefore the cooling required at the racks.
We are exploring solutions for higher density cooling whilst keeping energy efficiency at the forefront of our designs.
Our experience includes working on logistics facilities for speculative development, working on fit-out for occupiers and both refurbishment and extension for owner-occupiers. These buildings need to adapt and work with the clients’ operations, which may change over time.
Going forward these changes may involve EV charging for vehicle fleets, provision of PV to make the best use of large roofs and moving to low carbon sources for heating.
Our experience spans primary, secondary and tertiary education, including science/IT space, music facilities, libraries, sports halls and student accommodation.
Many of our education sector clients have a strong focus on reducing their carbon emissions through the replacement of end-of-life plant and equipment, improved control and monitoring, and the introduction of renewable energy systems.
We have recently overseen the installation of PV arrays on six buildings for one of our university clients.
We understand the importance in hospitals of reliable, maintainable and cleanable solutions. In a recent plant replacement project the brief required significantly improving maintenance access for the proposed equipment, and required minimal downtime when switching over to the new systems.
We provide designs in line with the HTM requirements, in addition to clients' project specific needs.
However, whilst functionality is as important as aesthetics for commercial projects, aesthetics remain the primary element within residential schemes. Our involvement with the Architect from an early stage is of particular importance.
